Upcoming Event: 2011 Invacare doubles masters

November 2-6. The Invacare Doubles Masters remains the most prestigious doubles event on the international NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

It also carries ITF Masters Series status, bringing with it a rich pool of ranking points, and as it falls towards the end of the calendar may also decide the year-end World No. 1 Doubles players in each of the Men's, Women's and Quad rankings published by the ITF.

As the most prestigious event on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters invites the top eight men and women based on the ranking after the US Open at the end of the year.  

 

 

David Wagner - Biography

 

David is a wheelchair tennis player ranked #1 in Quad singles and  #1 Quad doubles in the world, based on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings.  He has been in the top 3 in the world since 2002. David competed in the Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece (2004) and Beijing, China (2008) winning 2 Golds, 1 Silver, and 1 Bronze medals in singles and doubles. He is the 2010 US Open Singles and Doubles Champion.

 

David lost his ability to walk as a result of an accident in the surf off the coast of Redondo, CA in August of 1995. The result of the accident was a broken neck which damaged his spinal cord. Prior to his accident, David was a collegiate level tennis player and upon becoming paralyzed, doctors had little hope that he would ever walk again let alone play tennis. But in rehab he gained back the love for tennis and started to train again.

 

At the moment he is a full time wheelchair tennis player and travels all over the world. He plays 15-20 tournaments a year and also the Grand Slam tennis events (US Open, Flushing Meadows and Australian Open, Melbourne). His next goal is to participate at the Paralympic Games in London 2012 and to win another gold medal.
